There are few places on earth with the biodiversity of Peru. From its Andean peaks to the Amazon Basin, the Peruvian people have a living compact with their environment. The small villages along the Amazon river survive by fishing, The Aymara of the Titicaca basin still farm on stepped terraces as their ancestors did long before the Incan Empire. Oh, and while we're on the subject of the Inca, Ayla will take us through the ruins of the ancient city of Macchu Pichu. Check it out!




The Tiwi Islands, north of Darwin, are home to a people that successfully resisted the original wave of European settlement. Tied to the sea, they remain a stronghold of tradition that is expressed in their stunning art and independent outlook. There may be no other people so tied to the weather as the peoples of the north. The Inuit have evolved a lifestyle that enables them to live in one of the most hostile climates on the planet. Students On Ice will visit a number of Arctic communities in Iceland, Greenland and Canada's Baffin Island while living aboard the MS Explorer, accompanied by experts in environmental science.
