"...a slick series that's informative and fun to watch. The humor and
sense of wonder conveyed by hosts like Allicock-Hawtin (whose Kenyan sojourn
opened the series on Oct. 21) and her fellow students is infectious."
Andrew Borkowski, TV Guide, November 3, 2001

Imagine studying French in Paris, getting a senior secondary school
credit for Classical Civilization in Rome or preparing for University
level Biology in the Amazon Rain forest.
Capturing the highs and lows of making friends in strange places, ROAD
SCHOLARS, a new documentary series from Electric Entertainment, captures
the history and beauty of each exotic locale, while drawing viewers into
the intimate stories of each student's experience.
In July of 2001, Electric Entertainment, with 3 teams of camera
operator/producers tracked 8 Canadian teenagers from their local high
schools to their amazing summer excursion, studying, partying and
exploring the world. Armed with digital cameras, a student/host was
dispatched to each of: London, Paris, Rome/Sienna, Greece/Turkey, Costa
Rica, Kenya, The Galapagos Islands and The Amazon.
Each of the young Canadians earned the necessary credits to qualify for
the course in overseas study they chose. 4 of the hosts were cast from a
previous Electric Entertainment show, "T3 Teen Tribute TV" which aired
on Global Television in the Spring of 2000 and the 4 other hosts
participated in the show through a scholarship program organized by Blyth
and Company Global Education and Electric Entertainment.
For many of the students/hosts this was their first time out of the
country, indeed for some the first time away from their small Canadian
towns.
All students/hosts were trained by Electric Entertainment prior to
departure in the use of digital video cameras, which they used to record
their adventure of a lifetime.
